When it comes to vacation, there are two schools of thought. You can go someplace new and exciting each year, or you can go to a place that is comfortable and familiar. I am all about visiting new places, but there is something undeniably appealing about visiting the same place. For example, if you are in a new place you feel compelled to be a tourist. You spend half of your time visiting new places and seeing new things. You feel pressure to do these things because you aren’t sure if or when you are coming back. It’s like that with restaurants too. You spend your days researching where to eat– never quite knowing what you are in for at the table. None of this is bad, but when I am on vacation I want to relax. If you visit the same place each year there is no pressure to be a tourist because you’ve already done it all. The destination is your home away from home. Not only is there not much new to see or do, but you’ve also probably eaten at many of the restaurants too. Thus, you spend your time relaxing instead of researching dinner. Another advantage of having a home away from home is the unavoidable nostalgia.

My family has been vacationing in Ft Lauderdale for as long as I can remember– and staying at the same hotel. First it was the Yankee Clipper, then the Sheraton Yankee Clipper and now it’s the B Ocean. We have long since outgrown the hotel, but keep going back to create new memories. Since this was Arabella’s first time in Ft Lauderdale, I thought it would be cool to recreate some photos from my own childhood trips to Ft Lauderdale. And not going to lie, it was every bit as fun as I imagined!
